Backbone

Perforator XL is an experimental ensemble comprised of five Dutch musicians who are dedicated to the exploration of creative music making.

For their first project, instead of performing fully composed works, the ensemble has commissioned six international composers to contribute ‘musical backbones’  – creative starting points from which the ensemble can explore and create. These ‘musical backbones’ can be anything from a groove, a chord sequence, a melody or a set of instructions. The only restriction is: one backbone has to fit on one A4 sheet of paper. With the backbones functioning as building blocks for an hour of improvisation, in each concert Perforator restructures the content and builds a unique sonic texture.
